Winning Gold in the engineering category of the Green Apple Awards for Environmental Improvement, the team from Weald Electric Vehicles broke the UK record in May 2011 at the Alternative Energy Race Day at Santa Pod with a standing-start ¼-mile in 14.1 seconds at 97mph on their electric drag racing motorcycle. The local team from East Sussex will be displaying this award-winning vehicle in the 'Wheels Zone' at the 2012 show.
Following their success, Weald Electric Vehicles are now further developing their drag race project which aims to harness and unleash record-breaking power in an instant. Phil Edwards, owner of Weald Electric Vehicle Technology, comments; "The project encompasses the team's most aggressive use of electric power and we are now working on a world-record contender, aiming to run the ¼-mile in 7 seconds at 200mph which will require a whole new design. We are looking forward to showing Wings & Wheels visitors our progress on the new vehicle and discussing our upcoming aims for the project."
Wings & Wheels Event Manager, Nancy Edwards, comments; "We are showcasing a huge variety of vehicles in the 2012 'Wheels Zone' including, Hot Rod's, race prepared cars, trial bikes, supercars and classic vehicles but the record-breaking power of the electric drag racing motorcycle will certainly rival other vehicle displays at the show. Dunsfold Park has been a leading site for the development of green technology over the past 10 years and we are delighted that fine examples of innovative green technology, such as the developments by Weald Electric Vehicles, will be represented at Wings & Wheels this August bank holiday."
Wings & Wheels takes place on 26th & 27th August. Tickets to the show start from £18 for adults, £40 for a family (2 adults and 3 children aged 5 – 15yrs), £5 for children aged between 5 and 15yrs and under 5s are free. More information can be found via the website www.wingsandwheels.net

Instant power, aggression and speed will be on display at Wings & Wheels 2012 from a slightly more unusual source; forget petrol power, the force of electricity will be taking centre stage in the 'Wheels Zone' on 26th & 27th August as Weald Electric Vehicle Technology proudly display their record breaking electric drag racing motorcycle.
